Beloit Daily News & ‘Marriage is So Gay’ Camp Exploit Local High School
Filed Under Bitch Slap, LGBT, WTF? | Leave a Comment
My letter to the editor of the Beloit Daily News:
Dear Mr. Barth:
I am writing to state that I am very disturbed by the way your reporter, Justin Weaver, has sensationalized the Zach Patterson/Beloit Memorial High School story. I am an open lesbian whose children attend Beloit Memorial High School. I spoke with Justin and asked him why he did not include the following facts in his original article: (1) Beloit Memorial High School has a Gay Straight Alliance whose purpose is to create a safe space for the school’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth (2) Beloit Memorial High School honors National Day of Silence, a day when the world raises awareness of suicide among LGBT youth and (3) Beloit Memorial High School has worked for years to eradicate the phrase “That’s so gay” because it’s offensive and hurtful to both LGBT people and their straight allies.
Zach Patterson was not asked to remove his “Marriage is so gay” t-shirt because it supports gay marriage. He was asked to remove the shirt because it could be misinterpreted in so many ways. As I understand it, Zach originally went to the GSA advisors and asked them what they thought of the shirt. He was told by the GSA that, because the shirt could be misinterpreted as anti-gay, it might not be a good idea to wear the shirt at school.
It’s my opinion that Justin is sensationalizing the Zach Patterson/Beloit Memorial High School because it sells papers. The Beloit Daily News is exploiting not only Zach Patterson, but the teachers and administrators who have worked so hard to protect our city’s LGBT youth.
Do you need to sell papers so bad that you’re willing to ruin the reputation of a school that has worked hard to create a safe space for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth? Do you need to sell papers so bad that you’re willing to exploit the recent rash of suicides among gay teenagers? Shame on you. Shame on Justin Weaver. And shame on the “Marriage is so gay” t-shirt company for exploiting this story for financial gain.

Beloit Daily News Shows Its True Colors – #FAIL
Filed Under Culture, News, WTF? | Leave a Comment
I’m so disgusted with how our local paper, The Beloit Daily News (we all call it the Beloit Daily Snooze), handled this article:
Robbery reported at Beloit tavern
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken during a robbery that occurred at Club Impulse earlier this morning, according to Beloit police reports.
Police responded at 2:40 a.m. to the bar at 132 W. Grand Ave. The bartender said he was robbed and struck in the head by another man with whom the bartender had just engaged in a sexual act in the bathroom.
Capt. William Tyler said this is the second incident to have occurred at Club Impulse in the last couple of weeks that involved a man coming to the bar for a sexual encounter who later got robbed and beaten.
Police are seeking suspects in both incidents.
The Beloit Daily News has never once mentioned the straight girl who came in the bar so drunk that she literally dropped her pants, squatted and pissed on the floor, right in front of the entire bar. She was escorted out by the police.
The Beloit Daily News has never once mentioned the straight rednecks who come in to bar and pick a fight with the bar’s gay patrons, only to be escorted out – again – by the local police.
The Beloit Daily News has never once mentioned the time the bar was robbed and it did NOT involve one man having sex with another in the bathroom.
I thought The BDN (considered an extremely conservative, right-wing piece of shit) was changing its ways when it ran a very gay-friendly front page article about me and my fiancee, Andrea. I guess I was wrong.

Decision Day Epilogue: Statement on the Hawaii Civil Union Bill Veto
Filed Under LGBT, LGBTQ Families, Politics, WTF? | 1 Comment
Last night, Republican Governor Linda Lingle broke a promise and dismissed the will of Hawaiian citizens as she vetoed HB 444, which would have allowed both same-sex and heterosexual couples to enter into civil unions with all the rights enjoyed by married couples.
Michael Sargeant, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, issued the following statement in response to Governor Lingle’s veto of the civil union bill:
“We at the DLCC are disappointed in Governor Lingle for ignoring the will of Hawaiian citizens as expressed by the Hawaii legislature’s passage of this landmark legislation. Governor Lingle also broke her campaign promise not to veto a civil union bill if passed by the state legislature. She has denied Hawaii the opportunity to become the latest example of states leading the way on equality.”
Vetoing the legislation broke a promise Lingle made in her first campaign for governor in 2002.
It was during a live debate broadcast on PBS Hawaii that Lingle was asked by moderator Linda Taira about her position on the arrangements for gay couples with rights such as family and bereavement leaves, probate rights and hospital visitation.
“On the issue of domestic partnerships, I have stated that if the Legislature (should) pass legislation granting certain rights I would not veto that legislation,” Lingle said [emphasis added].
Democratic legislators did their part and voted their conscience on “that legislation,” after a marathon 18 hours of earnest debate. But their work was undone by the Governor’s broken promise.
And in breaking her promise, Governor Lingle denied hundreds of thousands of her own citizens a right she probably takes for granted.
The Governor’s veto is a sad setback in the ongoing fight for equality. But that fight continues.
One day, America will look back on the struggle for equal rights and wonder why it was so difficult. Governor Lingle will be one of the reasons.

Immigration Debate: The Crimes of Our Past Have Come Back to Haunt Us
Filed Under Culture, Race, WTF? | Leave a Comment
This video is almost 3 years old, but it actually fits today’s immigration discussion as if it were created specifically to speak to AZ’s very recent and very blatantly racist immigration bill:
I had a discussion with an exgirlfriend yesterday. After hearing her announce that she was joining the Tea Party, nothing she said surprises me anymore – well, almost nothing. She said:
I am getting sick of all of this immigration crap. Come legally or get the fuck out. Seriously.
I am hopeful that WI will adopt the federal law to state law like AZ and PA and the 13 other states who are going through the legislative process now.
Come legal or stay the fuck home!
And I replied with:
As for illegal immigrants – your ancestors came here and took land from Native Americans. I say fuck every person of European descent who’s running around bitching about people coming here illegally. And I agree with this picture 100% – http://twitpic.com/1k3cvk
Hell, I’d love to own one of those signs. I’d hang up outside my house and dare a motherfucker to say something.
You completely annoy me when you use the words “our country.” It ain’t our country. This country rightfully belongs to the Native Americans.
Of course her response was riddled with crap like, “Why are you bringing up old shit? That’s in the past.” I had to remind her that the crimes of our past will always come back to haunt us. I suggested that she was afraid that white Americans would suffer – at the hands of illegal immigrants – the same horrendous destruction of “their” land and people that Native Americans did.
Wouldn’t that be a bitch?
And now AZ has passed a law banning ethnic studies? What the hell is going on in that state? Any day now I expect to see AZ replace its flag with one that vaguely reminds you of a confederate flag.

Catholic Archdiocese of DC Says: We’ll Stop Feeding the Hungry if DC Recognizes Gay Marriage
Filed Under Bitch Slap, Religion, WTF? | 4 Comments
If I were Jesus, I would be really pissed off right about now.
Members of the Catholic Church hierarchy in DC announced they will prohibit Catholic Charities from providing services to DC residents if DC’s City Council decides to recognize all married couples – even same-sex couples – as equal under law.
That’s some seriously fucked up divide and conquer goin’ on right there. What kind of church withholds charity from a group of people in order to convince them to fuck over another group of people? I’m sure there are some really decent Catholics out there who are extremely embarrassed by all this.

Stand for Marriage Maine Pimps White Children and Black Woman in New Site Image
Filed Under Bitch Slap, iQreport, WTF? | 1 Comment
Stand for Marriage Maine, a group campaigning to revoke gay marriage rights in Maine, has launched a deceitful Google Adwords campaign that suggests that same-sex marriage rights in Maine will result in homosexuality being taught in public schools. Lies. Lies. Filthy lies.
Maine’s Attorney General already stated that heterosexual marriage isn’t currently part of any Maine public school curriculum so it’s untrue that gay marriage would sneak its way into any public school curriculum either.
If pimpin’ young, seemingly innocent, white children in a deceitful, hateful and manipulative anti-gay marriage campaign isn’t bad enough, the rabid anti-gay winguts have stooped to using a Black female in their landing page image. That’s a blatant attempt to appeal to anti-gay conservative Blacks – you know, one of the groups that helped pass California’s anti-gay Prop 8.
Seriously, how many Black people live in Maine? Not a lot! Maine’s Black population is less than 1.5%. Did they find the only Black female teacher in Maine and use her in their ad? Stand for Maine is hoping to raise funds from anti-gay Blacks in other states to help screw over homosexuals in Maine. Now that’s a pathetic move.

Hey Gay Guys: The Golden Girls Made You a Homo
Filed Under Religion, WTF? | 3 Comments
The writers over at Christwire finally have the answer. We finally know the origins of male homosexuality – at least for a certain time period:
Many studies have been done on why the gays love The Golden Girls, but science can’t fathom the moral challenges and social upheaval of those historic times. The 1980s was an epoch of President Reagan’s manly wisdom and the terrifying threat of Cold War annihilation. America had sobered up from the flashy lights of 1970s disco. We were skipping all night cocaine and sex parties to focus on our careers. Spiritual leaders like Jerry Falwell were telling us that Christianity was in the majority again. On the other side, there was a subculture of homosexuality creeping up on our youths. It gave them an excuse to wear tight jeans and to sneak off to public parks for quick releases with hairy men of different ethnicities.
There ya have it. The Golden Girls made you a homo who likes cock from all ethnicities. You’re a big ol’ tight jean wearin’ queer because you watched Blanche, Sophia, Rose and Dorothy one too many times on television.
Apparently, the Golden Girls has been a part of the gay agenda for a long time. That show was created to ruin the very threads keeping our wholesome, apple-pie, white American society together:
It was only to be expected that our lonely boys exposed to these conflicted times would succumb to the nagging Golden Girls agenda. These were slender, unathletic children who were left out of the fun militarism of the Reagan years. Skyrocketing divorce rates ruined their faith in traditional relationships. Rock groups like Duran Duran and Styx encouraged big hair and overactive libidos. The show lit a match which enflamed their intense physical urges. With the utmost cruelty and immorality, The Golden Girls seized upon this opportunity to cross the hormonal wires of America’s lost generation.
The results were disastrous. Our horny, lonely boys sought out intimate comforts with likeminded Golden Girls addicts who didn’t mind each other’s theatrical voices and touch-feely hand gestures. Together, these clusters of awkward teens and twentysomethings bonded over their favorite episodes and characters, mimicking the voices and gowns of their tv friends. When the rush of cheesecake and gabfests wore thin, these hairless boys needed a harder thrill. They were so desperate for the next big trend they turned to same-sex sexual experimentation. What woman would have them now, anyway? This led to the worse excesses of early homosexual visibility– the most enormous of drag queens, the dirtiest of leather daddies, the most enticing of twinkie boys, androgyny, overeating, public sex and the birth of “camp.”
That’s the most asinine shit I’ve read in ages. Is that religious wingnut smokin’ some good shit or what? I guess one too many Xena episodes turned a whole lot of girls into lesbians. Or maybe it was all those Wonder woman episodes. Hmmm. . .
The author doesn’t offer an explanation for homosexuality in countries other than the US. I’m guessing we have to wait for him to pull that one from his ass. It might take awhile.
Update: I just learned that Christwire is a satirical site. The Onion should have this guy on staff.

Even Bitch Magazine Hates Hairy Chochas
Filed Under Bitch Slap, Sex and Sexuality, Women's Issues, WTF? | Leave a Comment
In keeping with the theme for SistersTalk Radio’s anniversary show Monday night, I’m looking for interesting sex articles to discuss. I found a couple of amusing articles (here and here). Some of you might find it odd that Bitch (a self-proclaimed feminist magazine rag) refused to run the following advertisement because (supposedly, since we don’t know for sure) it’s displaying a hairy bush:

Personally, for me, a hairy bush is a dealbreaker. But I don’t claim I’m a feminist magazine published to empower all women, so I can say that.
In my opinion, it’s not the hairy bush that bothers the folks over at Bitch. It’s the hairy bush peeking out of a pair of pink panties that bothers them. If that hairy bush was visible through the opening of a pair of plaid boxers, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. True hairy feminists don’t wear pink undies, correct?
Of course I’m joking.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. The Bitch rag can do whatever it wants and reserves the right to refuse any advertisement. But, does anyone else find it odd that a feminist magazine that’s struggling to pay its bills wouldn’t run an ad like this one? It seems pretty harmless to me, but then again, I’m not one of those kinds of feminists so I wouldn’t understand what “harmless” means to them.
And yep, I used the qualifier “those kinds” to describe those kinds of feminists. We’ll be discussing this more on SistersTalk Radio Monday night. Join us!
Update:
One of my Twitter followers said “Though, rather than the hair it may have been the male stereotype on the front of the panties that did it.”
Since we don’t know for sure, let’s assume (hypothetically, of course) that the reason Bitch refused to run the ad is because it supposedly objectifies women. Pfft! Call me an objectifier then because I love pretty pink vaginas – and a whole lot of sex positive lesbians would agree with me.

Carrie Prejean is breast-deep in debt — and the Miss California pageant has come to collect.
The infamous Miss Cali and Miss USA second-place winner Carrie Prejean was sacked with a cross-complaint from Miss California officials, who have charged Prejean with ripping the pageant off for the cost of her $5,200 breast implants.
Hmm . . . they didn’t mind paying for implants as long as Prejean was using them to promote the pageant?
I can’t stand Prejean, but I think pageant officials are being childish pricks with this one.

HRC: Send Me Your Money, Well, Just Because
Filed Under Bitch Slap, DADT, LGBT, WTF? | 1 Comment
Fellow blogger Jay Morris and I have been brewin’ for hours about the HRC’s latest post-NEM move. Even though we originally vowed to play nice and refrain from making nasty comments about the HRC in mixed company, their latest move encouraged us both to take off our gloves.
Piggybacking off the success of the National Equality March, this morning the HRC distributed an email to its mailing list. They patted themselves on the back for a job well done this weekend, even though the organization’s involvement with (and support of) the march was minimal – at best. Conveniently moving their annual fundraiser from its usual first Saturday of October to the second Saturday just to make it appear as if the HRC was somehow involved in the march was a shadey move that most people barely noticed. Now, the HRC is asking people to help them raise $200K so they could can supposedly continue the momentum established by the NEM’s organizers.
What.the.fuck?
The HRC just had a fancy celebrity fundraising event this weekend in DC. Where did that money go – and why do they need another $200K? And did you and every other average Joe get an invite to that event? I’m guessing you didn’t.
The HRC’s email implies that they were more involved in the NEM than they really were and it also implies that only the HRC knows how to take this momentum and run with it (all links removed – bold emphasis is mine):
After this weekend, we have a burst of momentum.
But without a major advocacy push now, it could be lost.
Watch this video and help us raise $200,000 to capitalize on this moment.
Click here to watch the video!
This weekend was big.
From President Obama’s speech at our National Dinner to final House passage of hate crimes to the National Equality March, the nation’s attention is on LGBT equality – we have a burst of momentum.
But this is no time to grow complacent. We need your help to capitalize on this moment.
The next month and a half will be tough – while we fight against anti-LGBT ballot initiatives in multiple states, we must also act NOW to push our federal agenda to its tipping point, or we could miss this window.
We need to raise $200,000 for a renewed effort to seize this opportunity and advance our federal agenda and fight for marriage equality in the states without delay. Will you be part of this fight? (see full email document here)
Oh, I will be more than happy to be a part of the gay rights fight, but I’m not playing on the HRC’s team. It’s been almost 30 years since the HRC’s formation and the LGBTQ community has not seen a single federal law passed that protects our community from workplace discrimination, nor have we seen a repeal of DOMA or DADT. Instead, we’ve watched the HRC encourage the LGBTQ community to continue supporting politicians like Bill and Hillary Clinton, the folks who gave us DOMA and DADT.
Now why, I ask you, would any queer with half a brain continue to send any of their hard-earned money to this organization?
It is my hope that the new generation of LGBTQ activists we saw come out in droves this weekend in DC are committed to supporting true progressive organizations that want our money for something other than: paying their president his $390K annual salary, hosting celebrity galas that the average gay American can’t afford to attend and smoozin’ with big shots in corporate America who talk the talk way more than they walk it. Please, I ask you to send your money to campaigns like No on 1 in Maine and other local organizations that are willing to get out, pound doors and speak to our supporters and opponents face-to-face.
I agree with those who say gay organizations should learn to work together and stop all the bickering amongst themselves. I wish I didn’t feel compelled to bitch slap the HRC and air my grievances with the oldest “gay rights” organization in the country via this blog post. But, keeping quiet means the HRC will continue to take valuable dollars from gay rights supporters who mistakenly assume the organization is working to secure full equality on both a federal and state level for the LGBTQ community. It’s time for those dollars to go elsewhere – maybe then we’ll see some real progress.
