Yes, 'Otalia' was 'used' to market this series. It remains to be seen if the love story of 'Gina' (played by Crystal) and 'Ani' (played by Jessica) will take a distant backseat to the 'Gina' and 'Tracy' love story. As an Otlaia fan I was all game for a different storyline between CC and JL … just as long as we got to see them act together. Their chemistry is what made it interesting… I would say almost as much as Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Conner's onscreen chemistry made watching Xena so much fun! I wish them well but I'm not sure I'll be watching 'Venice'.

They may have created the characters for Venice, but they used "Otalia's" success to market the series to Otalia fans – which gives people hope that the Otalia love story will continue, even if they DID say it wouldn't.

Crystal, Kimmy, and Hope have all made a point of saying this is NOT Otalia 2.0. This isn't suppose to be a continuation of Otalia. Kimmy created these characters for Venice.
