Bilingual school teacher Mitrice Richardson is a 24 year-old graduate of California State University of Fullerton and a doctoral candidate at Psychology Professional College. On September 16, 2009, Mitrice disappeared.

On the night of September 16, 2009, Mitrice was arrested at Geoffry’s restaurant in Malibu, CA. The initial charge was DUI, but Mitrice was later charged with failing to pay her restaurant tab. While dining with friends at Geoffry’s, Mitrice allegedly stated she was from Mars. Mitrice’s family believes she is suffering from depression.

Mitrice was taken into police custody shortly after 10:00pm. She was released at approximately 12:38am. No one has seen or heard from Mitrice since then.

Mitrice’s friends and family are asking for help locating her and they’re offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that results in her safe return.

Although Mitrice is an out lesbian, the family is unsure if her sexual orientation is related to her disappearance.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) announced the election of The Reverend Bernice King, the daughter of The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. (the organization’s founder), as its eighth president this morning. The Reverend Eric P. Lee, president of the Los Angeles chapter of the SCLC and an outspoken advocate of social justice, was targeted last year by the organization for his advocacy in favor of LGBT marriage equality during California’s Proposition 8 controversy.

With next week’s anniversary of Proposition 8, and the upcoming marriage equality votes in Maine and Washington, Reverend Lee says, “my hope is that Reverend King will follow in the spirit of her father and her mother. We know that her mother, Coretta Scott King, was supportive of LGBT equality, and we believe that Dr. King would have been as well.” Reverend Lee adds, “it’s going to be a tough role for her because, of course, sexism still plagues our society. My hope is that her election is a sign that the SCLC is returning to its sprit of equality for all people. The need for the SCLC is more critical than ever at this time. Our society is facing the challenges of healthcare reform, immigration reform and education reform. Reverend King and the SCLC have the opportunity, and the obligation, to once again ensure justice is provided to all people.”

Reverend Lee is the author of the book, “Marriage Equality: Proposition 8, The California Divide”, and the co-producer of a 90 minute documentary film on the failure of public education for African American and Latino children entitled, “Who Is Accountable?” For additional information about the Reverend Eric P. I just received a promotional email from Jessica Stites, Associate Editor of Ms. Magazine. I replied with the following:

I am no longer interested in receiving information about Ms. Magazine. For years, it was my opinion that your magazine has catered to a white female audience and has largely ignored women of color and the issues related to us. I have kept an eye on your work for the past 6 months and that opinion has not changed.

It seems only since the recession has your magazine cared to reach out to women of color, mostly because your magazine – and many others – are suffering financially. When you didn’t need money or attention from women of color, you ignored us. Now that you need money wherever you can find it, you’re suddenly making an attempt (a pathetic one, in my opinion) to reach across those race borders.

You didn’t want us back then, we don’t want you now.

Regards,
Genia

If anyone knows of a feminist or womanist magazine that has always made a sincere effort to be inclusive, let me know. I will gladly support that publication. Otherwise, the Ms. Magazine and Bitch magazines of the world can kiss my BLACK ass.

Stand for Marriage Maine, a group campaigning to revoke gay marriage rights in Maine, has launched a deceitful Google Adwords campaign that suggests that same-sex marriage rights in Maine will result in homosexuality being taught in public schools. Lies. Lies. Filthy lies.

Maine’s Attorney General already stated that heterosexual marriage isn’t currently part of any Maine public school curriculum so it’s untrue that gay marriage would sneak its way into any public school curriculum either.

If pimpin’ young, seemingly innocent, white children in a deceitful, hateful and manipulative anti-gay marriage campaign isn’t bad enough, the rabid anti-gay winguts have stooped to using a Black female in their landing page image. That’s a blatant attempt to appeal to anti-gay conservative Blacks – you know, one of the groups that helped pass California’s anti-gay Prop 8.

Seriously, how many Black people live in Maine?  Not a lot!  Maine’s Black population is less than 1.5%.   Did they find the only Black female teacher in Maine and use her in their ad?  Stand for Maine is hoping to raise funds from anti-gay Blacks in other states to help screw over homosexuals in Maine.   Now that’s a pathetic move.

Equality Across America distributed the following Call-to-Action notices to help LGBTQ people in Maine, Washington and Kalamazoo. If you can do anything to help our LGBTQ family members in these locations, please do so.    I also ask that you retweet this post on Twitter and share this post on Facebook – regardless of where you live.

Maine – Vote No On 1:

Washington – Approve Referendum 71:

Kalamazoo- Vote YES On Ordinance 1856

For those of you in California, there’s a special opportunity to train yourself at CAMP COURAGE.
