I was born and raised in the south. Because the south was forced to deal with its institutionalized racism, that area of the country seems to be further ahead of the rest of country on race issues. It doesn't surprise me when I hear about this kind of thing happening, especially in non-southern states.

When I heard about this story, I wanted to run and check my calender... Had we somehow fallen into some time warp and returned to the horrors of segrationist claptrap (cough, BULLSHIT) and ignorance that was so horrifically common all throughout this country until a few decades ago? I would hope we as a people, as a species, could grow up enough collectively to once and for all realize that the ONLY thing that matters about a person is the contents of their heart - or that's my two cents on it, anyway.
