Did You Miss Out and Proud Gay Musician Tom Goss on SistersTalk Radio?
Filed Under Lesbian Podcast, Music | Leave a Comment
Tonight on SistersTalk Radio, we interviewed out and proud musician Tom Goss.
Tom grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He spent his childhood in the gym with his gymnast parents and brothers, but switched to wresting in junior high—a better outlet for some serious teenage aggression—and stuck with it through college.
Music was another, more enduring passion. His mom bought him a guitar as a high-school graduation present, and he quickly taught himself to play. Inspired by Dave Matthews and David Gray, he soon started writing songs of his own. Through it all, Tom felt a strong spiritual calling.
Hear Tom discuss:
* His musical influences
* Memories of his very first performance
* His desire to become a priest
* His coming out story
You’ll also hear samples of Tom’s music. Download the podcast now.

Bachelorette parties banned at a Chicago gay bar: http://tr.im/oJXD – how do you feel about this?
Some of my Facebook friends responded with:
Jessie Dana Lehua Baum that’s freakin lame
Jackie Meyer Why do straight women need to have parties at the gay bar? I know I’m old fashioned, but I think it’s disrespectful. I can see how it makes sense for some people who maybe have a lot of gay friends and frequent the bars with them, but for those that don’t? I don’t know, I guess I’m rather conflicted about straight people frequenting gay bars when they aren’t there to be with their gay friends.
MoBetta JamesWtf?
Jackie Meyer At the same time, I also agree that you don’t solve discrimination by discriminating. This is why I’m torn. Perhaps a sign that says “until gay marriage is legal, we ask you don’t have your bachelorette party here”, since that points out the issue without discriminating. Granted, I don’t think drunk people stop to read, but it’s a middle ground.
Cherie Davis A good conflict…sweet…Ok I frequent my local pub which you could probably label as a straight hang out…so what about gay people hanging out at straight establishments??? Tell me what the difference is???
Jackie Meyer The difference is that one group is discriminated against, while the other isn’t. But, if I went to a bar where I wasn’t welcome, I wouldn’t go back! It’s not worth the drama, and wouldn’t be fun. Now, I don’t go to bars to begin with, and I’m still definitely conflicted. For instance,I think there’s a difference between people going to watch a drag show, which is a show, and just going to a club which has no entertainment, just the presumed lack of straight guys to hit on them. Then, I think that it’s probably safer for them to go to the gay bar where there is less chance of them being taken advantage of. lol aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!! My head hurts
Cherie Davis Lets not drag discrimination into it because everyone is discriminated against at some point of their life no matter of their sex, sexual orientation, colour, race, disability blah blah…the list truly is endless… What if they just liked the venue, the crowd, etc??? I went to a new place Sat night and thought…yeah nice place…a lot of straight people but yeah nice digs…I’ll be back… Its a head doer innerer lol for sure mate
Jackie Meyer In the end, I don’t know. When you’re in the majority, you have so many options. When you’re in the minority you have so few. To have your few options taken over by those who already have so many options, what happens to your options?
Cherie Davis Put it this way…I live my life…I dont give a rats what any tom dick or harry has to say about it…I dont live my life by some set of rules some wanker made….I dont care that they dont include me…I make these rules in my own personal life and I live by them…to argue and cry wolf over issues is stupid…make friends and peace with everyone and be happy
Cherie Davis omg I go to gay dude bars cause I like the guys…Does that put me in the same boat as the straight people going to lesbian bars???… I know many a gay dude who goes to lesbian bars and I think sweet…hope he has fun
Jackie Meyer Not everyone wants peace. And it’s very easy to just live until the laws prevent you from getting the very basics of life, such as critical health care. Every day I have to wonder if we’re going to the emergency room, if I’ll be allowed in the room and if they’ll listen to me or tell me anything. Every day I have to watch my wife suffer because I can’t put her on my insurance because our canadian marriage isn’t recognized here. Will I lash out at straight people who haven’t personally done anything against me? no. But will I question their motives when they celebrate their marriage in a space with people who aren’t even allowed to get married? Yes. As long as I have to try to explain to my wife why we can’t get her the medical care that she needs to survive, I will question and I will not stand by and say it’s good enough, because it isn’t.
Cherie Davis I think that is crap…Here I cant even add my nephew onto my policy and hes my blood relation so figure that one outl…But I add gfs on my car insurance policy as my partner…but anyway…If things are that bad get her her own policy… I have my own policy and wouldnt add a partner because of the crap if things dont work out
Jackie Meyer There’s no insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, so we’d be paying thousands of dollars that cover absolutely nothing. That’s not a solution. And you could add your nephew if you were his legal guardian.
Cherie Davis Of course I can do that…but I cant simply to help his mum out whos a single parent and hes a kid with needs…see I think thats crap but it is what it is and I would happily pay top dollar for him to have anything he needs…See your medical system is screwed up period and always has been…I reckon thats where the problem lies…as for pre-existing conditions…Im pretty sure we cover them after like12 months
Jackie Meyer All states have children’s medicaire, which is meant for poor children. But if you make too much, you’re screwed most of the time. Health care is messed up. And paying a few hundred dollars a month for insurance to eventually cover things isn’t possible. Who has that extra moneylaying around? But it’s beside the point. The point is, in a month where rights are being refused by the very person who said he’d grant them,I have no sympathy for people not being able to party where they want. I just don’t have that available right now. Maybe tomorrow, but not today.
Cherie Davis This got like way off topic didnt it??? lol
Lee Marshall Yes, it did. I understand the bar owner who is making a statement by not letting het brides have bachelorette parties at his gay establishment, but I think the bar owner who asks them to sign the petition for gay marriage is being smarter. I think we need to win people to our side, rather than just “fighting back.”
Genia Stevens Lee: that’s a great solution. Have the straight brides sign a petition for gay marriage rights – instead of kicking them out. I wonder if any of them have ever refused to sign the petition.
Linda Hudson The constant need of the HUGE Umbrella ella ella of the LGBTQRXYZ’s of having this practically political “cultish” front… has always disturbed me. Zaharakis is making HIS political statement. It’s his. He has NOTHING to apologize for/explain. Just as the owner having het brides sign petitions is making his own political statement/action. I don’t think every political statement has to be necessarily polite/catering. If het brides are offended/angered w/ALL their privilege, banned from an establishment, because THE owner/patrons of that establishment are not entitled to the same rights… then it’s up to the privileged to check their own outrage & why. If they don’t “get it”, then in my experience, these are the same “allies” who don’t have a problem w/”de gheys” just as long as the gays know their place. Oh how the tune would change if a het male bachelor party showed up at a dyke club coyote ugly night? Oh their “allies” all right. **smirk**
Lance A Worth i say the whole party oughta sign. Strength in numbers!

Shame on Obama for Letting Hillary Clinton Show Him Up
Filed Under Barack Obama, Bitch Slap, Gays, LGBT, Lesbians, Politics, WTF? | 3 Comments
Update 5:35pm Here’s the final text of Obama’s memorandum. Note the section highlighted in yellow. I don’t get it.
After Obama’s Justice Department filed a legal brief against same sex marriage in which it compared gay unions to incestuous ones and that of an underage girl, his administration (compliments of Sec of State Hillary Clinton) turns around and releases a memorandum that outlines federal benefits for same-sex partners of federal employees in the civil service and the foreign service.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 17, 2009Fact Sheet: Presidential Memorandum on Federal Benefits and Non-Discrimination
In an Oval Office event later today, President Barack Obama will sign a Presidential Memorandum on Federal Benefits and Non-Discrimination. The Memorandum follows a review by the Director of the Office of Personnel Management ant the Secretary of State regarding what benefits may be extended to the same-sex partners of federal employees in the civil service and the foreign service within the confines of existing federal laws and statutes.
Over the past several months, the Director of the Office of Personnel Management and the Secretary of State have conducted internal reviews to determine whether the benefits they administer may be extended to the same-sex partners of federal employees within the confines of existing laws and statutes. Both identified a number of such benefits.
For civil service employees, domestic partners of federal employees can be added to the long-term care insurance program; supervisors can also be required to allow employees to use their sick leave to take care of domestic partners and non-biological, non-adopted children. For foreign service employees, a number of benefits were identified, including the use of medical facilities at posts abroad, medical evacuation from posts abroad, and inclusion in family size for housing allocations.
The Presidential Memorandum to be signed today will request that the Director of OPM and the Secretary of State act to extend to same-sex partners of federal employees the benefits they have identified. The Memorandum will also request the heads of all other executive branch departments and agencies to conduct internal reviews to determine whether other benefits they administer might be similarly extended, and to report the results of those reviews to the Director of OPM.
The Memorandum will also direct OPM to issue guidance within 90 days to all executive departments and agencies regarding compliance with, and implementation of, the civil service laws, which make it unlawful to discriminate against federal employees or applicants for federal employment on the basis of factors not related to job performance.
Is anyone else confused? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Hillary Clinton is trying to prop herself up as the gay community’s savior – even though she helped Barr write the very anti-gay DOMA. Her timing couldn’t have been any better. She waits until Obama’s DOJ files a very offensive brief defending her precious DOMA, then she steps in with great news for same-sex partners of federal employees? Coincidence? I think not.
If I were Obama, I’d fire that Bush-era holdover who recently filed the brief defending DOMA and I’d fire Hillary Clinton’s shadey ass. Between the two of them, he has way too many enemies on his team.
Michelle Obama’s new job ought to be keepin’ an eye on Hillary Clinton. I think Mrs. Obama can handle that wicked witch just fine.
