Get Your Girl-on-Girl Fix With These Lesbian Web Shows

Update 2: We need to add Venice to this list.

Update: B.J. Fletcher, Private Eye is a GREAT lesbian web series! I missed it in the original post. Watch the first 2 seasons here.

—————-

If you were a huge L Word fan and you’re missing your weekly girl-on-girl action, check out one of these lesbian web series:

Apples, the first lesbian web series featuring Hispanic women, premiered in 2007. Even though the first season was met with much enthusiasm from its fans, the show’s producers haven’t released a second season.

The Lovers and Friends Show is a lesbian web series featuring Black and Hispanic lesbians. The show made its debut on January 1, 2008. Lovers and Friends focuses on six main characters and their life experiences as lesbians from various backgrounds.

We Have to Stop Now is a lesbian web series that follows a lesbian couple (both therapists) as they struggle to keep up the pretense of staying together while a documentary film crew watches their every move.

Seeking Simone is a lesbian web series filmed in Canada. The series follows lesbian actress Simone as she attempts to find love in her new home, Toronto.

Anyone But Me is a lesbian web series that introduces a new generation searching for love and belonging in the post 9/11 age.

None of these shows will provide the amount of nudity and sex you saw in The L Word; but, you won’t have to hear any horrible L Wordish theme songs either.

If I missed a web series, please add it to the comments section.

Update – July 9, 2009: SheWired has a list going as well.

Wisconsin Gov. Signs Bill Enacting Domestic Partnerships

Fair Wisconsin reports:

Wisconsin will become the first state in the nation with an existing constitutional amendment banning marriage equality and civil unions to enact domestic partnerships today when Governor Doyle signs the biennial state budget. The bill grants important and limited protections to same-sex couples in caring, committed relationships, including hospital visitation and the ability to take Family Medical Leave to care for a sick or injured partner. This makes Wisconsin the first state in the Midwest to legislatively enact protections for same-sex couples – putting the state whose motto is “Forward” back on a progressive track with this important step towards equality.

Embedded links added by me.

Before gay Wisconsin residents jump for joy, remember that Wisconsin’s domestic partnerships “do not confer a legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals.” To be eligible to register as domestic partners, “two individuals must be of the same sex, both be at least 18 years old, share a common residence, not be nearer of kin than second cousins, and neither party can be married or in another domestic partnership with anyone else.”

I guess this is a step in the right direction. But, if the rest of gay Wisconsin is anything like me, they’re turning their nose up at this pathetic attempt to make us feel like we’re being treated fairly, like heterosexual taxpaying Wisconsin residents.

Obama Calls on Congress to Repeal Anti-Gay DOMA and DADT

At a press conference designed to appease Obama critics in the LGBT community, President Obama said “I’ve called on Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act to help end discrimination to help end discrimination against same-sex couples in this country.”

I’ve called on Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act to help end discrimination — to help end discrimination against same-sex couples in this country. Now, I want to add we have a duty to uphold existing law, but I believe we must do so in a way that does not exacerbate old divides. And fulfilling this duty in upholding the law in no way lessens my commitment to reversing this law. I’ve made that clear.

I’m also urging Congress to pass the Domestic Partners Benefits and Obligations Act, which will guarantee the full range of benefits, including health care, to LGBT couples and their children. My administration is also working hard to pass an employee non-discrimination bill and hate crimes bill, and we’re making progress on both fronts. Judy and Dennis Shepard, as well as their son Logan, are here today. I met with Judy in the Oval Office in May — and I assured her and I assured all of you that we are going to pass an inclusive hate crimes bill into law, a bill named for their son Matthew.

. . .

And finally, I want to say a word about “don’t ask, don’t tell.” As I said before — I’ll say it again — I believe “don’t ask, don’t tell” doesn’t contribute to our national security. In fact, I believe preventing patriotic Americans from serving their country weakens our national security.

During the press conference, Obama also called out anti-gay Black Americans – a move I’m sure will make those upper-class white male homosexuals over at HRC very, very happy:

Now, even as we take these steps, we must recognize that real progress depends not only on the laws we change but, as I said before, on the hearts we open. For if we’re honest with ourselves, we’ll acknowledge that there are good and decent people in this country who don’t yet fully embrace their gay brothers and sisters — not yet.

That’s why I’ve spoken about these issues not just in front of you, but in front of unlikely audiences — in front of African American church members, in front of other audiences that have traditionally resisted these changes. And that’s what I’ll continue to do so. That’s how we’ll shift attitudes. That’s how we’ll honor the legacy of leaders like Frank and many others who have refused to accept anything less than full and equal citizenship.

The LGBT community has heard Obama promise to repeal DADT and DOMA for quite some time now. WHEN will we actually see some action?

Sources: Jordan Chandler Admits He Lied About Being Sexually Abused by Michael Jackson

UPDATE 11:30pm: Is this story a hoax?

Original post published at 11:15pm

I just read a few blog posts that state Jordan Chandler, the young boy who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse in 1993, has admitted he lied. I haven’t seen this story confirmed on any major mainstream news sites yet so I don’t know how true it is.

With the news of the passing of Michal Jackson, the truth about who MJ really was has been coming to light these pass days. And, now the little boy who claimed that Micheal Jackson “molested” him when he was younger has now issued a statement saying “I lied for my father, I’m sorry Michael’! WOW!

In 1993, Jordan Chandler told a psychiatrist and police that he and Jackson had engaged in sexual acts that included oral sex, the boy gave detailed description of Jackson’s genitals. The case was settled out of court for a reported $22 million, but the strain led Jackson to begin taking painkillers. Eventually he became addicted.

Now maybe for the remorse of his death Jordan Chandler decides to tell us the truth. ” I never meant to lie and destroy Michael Jackson but my father made me to tell only lies. Now i can’t tell Michael how much i’m sorry and if he will forgive me ”.

His father, Evan Chandler was tape-recorded saying amongst other things, “If I go through with this, I win big-time. There’s no way I lose. I will get everything I want and they will be destroyed forever…

Under the influence of a controversial father (Evan Chandler) told his son to tell that Jackson had touched his penis. Evan Chandler then told a psychiatrist and later police that he and Jackson had engaged in acts of kissing, masturbation and oral sex, as well as giving a detailed description of what he alleged were the singer’s genitals.

“Now for the first time i can’t bare to lie anymore. Michael Jackson didn’t do anything to me, all was my father lies to escape from being poor.” says Jordan.

If Jordan Chandler did indeed lie, how many other children were encouraged to lie in order to extort money from Michael Jackson?

Gay History Project Available as New iPhone Application

The Gay History Project is a global interactive project started in 2009 by John Clevesy in an attempt to spread awareness about LGBT historical figures and events. It also features personal stories by Clevesy and any contributors who wish to share their experiences. Users can also contribute new articles about events as they occur to keep the project constantly growing. This is the first and only iPhone app to be solely based on providing LGBT history to its users.

Clevesy says:

I recently learned that my British husband wouldn’t be allowed to apply for a green card because the US Federal Government doesn’t recognize our marriage. Although we have yet to be united, the saddest part is that we aren’t the only ones going through this. Over 30,000 same-sex couples are being kept apart, and even more are denied basic rights. It is because of this that I decided to see what has happened around the world in regards to gay rights. This app includes over 150 LGBT historical events, places, and influential people and a forum in which new stories can be added, allowing the amount of information to grow every day, so people can think more carefully in the future about equality.

As of June 2009, the Gay History Project features over 150 built-in articles about LGBT events and people from around the world. The articles span over four-thousand years of history and are ordered chronologically. They are divided into nine categories: Ancient Times, The Roman Empire, England & America (1000CE – 1800CE), Life in the 1800s, The early 1900s, Social Revolution (1960-1979CE), The eighties, The nineties, and A new millennium. Clevesy’s personal story is also featured in a separate section entitled “Forward.” Each section contains articles relating to the time-period in which the user has selected along with an article that lists additional events that occurred during that timeframe. The sections relating to periods after the 1700s also include color-coded maps which display information about laws regarding homosexuals in various territories around the world.

I don’t own an iPhone (I’m a BlackBerry kinda girl), but it looks like an interesting application for iPhone fanatics in the LGBTQ community.
