NOM Uses Cute White Kids in New Anti-Gay Marriage Commercial
Filed Under Bitch Slap, LGBT, Religion, WTF? | 8 Comments
I’m kinda curious about something . . . what happened to the rainbow coalition NOM was using in its original anti-gay marriage commercials?
The latest anti-gay marriage commercial uses really young and really cute white kids to spread the organization’s bogus message that gay marriage is a serious threat to society. I’m guessing NOM figured people would worry more about gay marriage if the lives of cute white kids were at stake.
Who would allow their kids to be used like this? Who do these kids belong to?

Update: This new NOM commercial reminds me of the Hitler Youth:

Anti-Gay Organization Says New Evidence Proves People Aren’t Born Gay
Filed Under Gays, Religion | 6 Comments
Anti-gay organization AFA is applauding the American Psychological Association (APA) for its recent revision to its Answers to Your Questions For a Better Understanding of Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality page on its web site. In an email today, the AFA told its members that the APA had revised its gay gene theory and that there’s no such thing as a person being born gay. The AFA pointed to this section:
There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay, or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.
For decades, the AFA has insisted the following: people are not born gay; homosexuality is a choice; prayer and therapy will cure anyone who believes s/he is gay.
What the AFA did not tell its members is that the APA still insists homosexuality is not a mental disorder and any therapy designed to change a person’s sexual orientation may be harmful:
All major national mental health organizations have officially expressed concerns about therapies promoted to modify sexual orientation. To date, there has been no scientifically adequate research to show that therapy aimed at changing sexual orientation (sometimes called reparative or conversion therapy) is safe or effective. Furthermore, it seems likely that the promotion of change therapies reinforces stereotypes and contributes to a negative climate for lesbian, gay, and bisexual persons. This appears to be especially likely for lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals who grow up in more conservative religious settings.
It’s unfortunate (but definitely very purposeful) that the AFA did not link to the APA’s page so their members can read the content in its entirety. I doubt the AFA’s sheep will have enough sense to search for more information on their own.
