President Barack Obama
Filed Under Barack Obama, Politics, President Barack Obama
I didn’t get a chance to watch the inauguration live because I was in court (again) dealing with child placement issues and child support. I married a jackass and I bore him children. There’s nothing I can do about that now.
I was driving home feeling very ticked off that I missed watching history in the making. During my 20 minute drive home from the courthouse, my friends started sending me celebratory text messages with comments like:
“Hell yeah! President Obama. Adios Bush!”
“We got us a new President. Finally!”
“This happy day calls for a happy dance.”
“God Bless America!” (Normally, I roll my eyes when I see that comment. Today I didn’t.)
What I was most proud of today is that the voice of pissed off gay America didn’t drown out the excitement of history in the making.
Congratulations, Mr. President.

It was a beautiful day and ceremony. Yes, Warren’s rather lame prayer flew by and though his constant use of “equality” and “justice” made me cringe, he was soundly put in his place by the wonderfully aged voice of Dr. Lowery who wowed everyone with is compassion, humor, and true connection to the long march that led to the day.
I’d read somewhere that people had planned to turn their backs on Warren when he spoke. I haven’t seen any reports that indicate that actually happened.
It was a beautiful ceremony. Obama’s speech is on the CNN website, as is the text of it, both of which made me cry, as did his swearing in ceremony of his senior WH staff with morning, with Obama’s promises of openness and transparency. Anyway, sorry you had to deal with unhappy legal crap instead, but it’s still a great moment for the world.
I have saved Obama’s speech to a CD and saved a copy of the text to his speech. I put it in a scrap book. It’ll be nice to share the CD with my grandchildren someday.
