President Obama will be to gays what Bush was to liberals: someone to constantly complain about.

The Rev. V. Gene Robinson, Episcopal bishop of New Hampshire, delivered the opening prayer in front of the Lincoln Memorial at 2:20 p.m. Sunday to kick off “We Are One,” a star-studded event honoring President-elect Barack Obama. But HBO’s telecast didn’t begin until 2:30 p.m. ET and was live throughout, meaning that viewers at home didn’t get a chance to see Robinson’s prayer.

The omission caused a pile of headaches for HBO and the Presidential Inaugural Committee, which received an estimated $2 million to give HBO the exclusive rights to the concert. HBO offered the signal free to cable and satellite subscribers, regardless of whether they had HBO. But the committee, which goes by the acronym PIC, said the fault was its own and not HBO’s. I would also suggest they throw in a few Cher, Madonna and Britney concerts too if they want to really please the angry folks. Yep, that was indeed a jab at the drama queens.

Hopefully, all the inauguration noise will go away soon and President Obama can move on to more imporant things – like, oh, the economy.

Love the new diggs at your own domain.

I have to disagree with you on this one though. It wasn’t Cher or Madonna (or forbid the thought Brittany) it was Gene Robinson – the man who made most activists “ok” with the Rick Warren choice. Although I wasn’t too upset with the Rick Warren choice, it was a bit of a slap in the face – who’s next, David Duke? But that the Obama inaugural committee told HBO that it was part of the pre-show just goes to show how little attention is being paid to the non-black v. white version of civil liberties.

I suspected I would cry tears of joy during the inaugural events as the ceiling had been breached. Instead I cried tears of sorrow as hypocrites like Warren declared justice and equality for all and the crowds cheered – it was a denial that inequality remains… the civil rights movement’s symbol should not be the “approximately equal to” sign.

Thanks for stopping by Jay. I was hoping people would still be able to find me once I moved.

I agree: the civil rights movement’s symbol should not be the “approximately equal to” sign. That’s the very reason I originally supported Dennis Kucinich in 2004 and 2008. He supports full equality for the LGBT community – including marriage rights. BUT, it was the gay community that propped Hillary Clinton up as our best friend – even though she helped draft DOMA and she does not support full marriage rights for same-sex couples.

I will continue to speak out against the same community that IGNORED Kucinich, supported Hillary Clinton, but yet bitches about Obama choosing an anti-gay minister to participate in his inauguration. I view that behavior as extremely hypocritical.
